@Jeronimo. The box is easy to found but I'll see the prices of plastic machining services and return to people interested.

Hi Tiago, Congratulations !!!
Are you capable of providing this box to other beagleboard users ?

Just checked this from Beagleboard google groups and this is indeed cool ! I was thinking of making a case myself...just that I don't know anything about it...I just thought maybe I should get a plastic box, burn some holes in it and I should be good to go. hehe. The reason for not ordering a case online is that I stay in India and hence to avoid shipping charges etc., I can't get a "good" case.

Anyway, good luck with your box. ;)

Unfortunately I don't know :-(
You could search for "plastic machining services" on internet, but I guess that you will found only big companies (this box service would be considered simple). I think the head-to-head conversation with some mechanical engineer would be useful or asking in some technical university.

Thx for the response.

Do you know some online sites that accepts such designs at acceptable costs (I couldn't find where they talk about price :( ) in north america ?

regards

Hi Wael,

In order to do your design you need a CAD software. I'm not sure if Blender is the best choice to this kind of work. I used Solid Works but I think there are good Free Software to create this level of CAD design. The 3D design gives you an idea, but to send to machining you need the technical drawing. If you saw the post about sketch you will note that only the connectors (each component are defined in a specific library, if some doesn't exist you need create them) where added just for positioning in relation the box. I made this as prototype in the company that I work. I don't have the exactly value but it's a simple task with the appropriate tools.

About your robot casing. If you had the box you could send your technical drawing to any company that do metalworking (i.e: using an milling machine). Some company would create the box too, but I think it's more expensive. Just pay attention to heat influence in your project. I made my in Brazil, so don't think would be useful to you :P

Hi,

Can you tell me please what kind of software did you use to make it ? - wonder if blender works - Where did you send the model to make the prototype and most importantly how much does it cost ;) ?

It would be cool to see if it is possible to make robot casing using plastics by just providing designs

Regards,

Hi Scott.

I think the acrylic case from Special Computing would be more a complete solution. I presented a cheap solution, this box (including the machining services) would cost less than U$ 5.00. For know this is a prototype, I need to think a way include access to expansion connection and allow an LCD panel....
Ideas are welcome :-)
